I didn’t ask for your Advice!

Ok before I even start into this I want to remind you that this is a blog post! My opinion and thoughts based off of real life experiences. This is posted on MY website; written by ME and proof read by very few so get over the grammar errors and possible miss spellings. haha This isn’t going to be published in some PhD approved magazine or going to be approved by the all knowing gods of fitness. So, no getting heated or all butt hurt over MY OPINION. Ok, now that we have covered that lets get into what this post is about. I actually started this blog post almost a year ago and just kept it in a file folder thinking maybe someday I would finish it and share my thoughts with the world. Well, after a recent incident with one of my athletes I decided to reopen this file and really share my feelings on this topic. If you don’t already know what this topic is about, this blog goes out to all the advice givers of the world. Now when I say advice givers I am speaking in terms of those in this crazy fitness world who feel the need to share their unsolicited opinion and thoughts with complete strangers, particularly females in the fitness industry. Now, let’s also remember that 1) I am a female in the fitness industry. 2) I am a CompPrep coach with a successful resume (But I don’t need to defend myself for having an opinion) 3) Yes, I will be writing this post through the eyes of a female. So guys don’t get all butt hurt and think I am being sexist towards you, there are [...]

5 Easy Tips to achieve your New Year Health Goals

Thanksgiving has come and gone and now we have just survived Christmas. There were probably too many cookies consumed and a few too many servings of cheesy broccoli but don’t worry IT’S OK! As the New Year is approaching many people reflect on the past thinking about goals achieved and those that may have feel a little short. One of the biggest goals for many in the New Year is to lose weight. Many will join a gym for the very first time or go back to the gym in which they haven’t step foot in for months. Exercising plays a big role in weight loose but getting back into the swing of things takes time. The gym isn’t for everyone but you can still reach those weight loose goals by making minor changes in your daily routine. SLEEP- Sleep affects our physical and mental health tremendously, and many of us do not get enough. Lack of sleep adversely affects metabolism, mood, concentration, memory, motor skills, stress hormones and even the immune system and cardiovascular health. Sleep allows the body to heal, repair and rejuvenate itself in a way it simply cannot when a person is awake. EAT BREAKFEST EACH DAY- A healthy breakfast starts your day off right. It sets you up so that you have energy and fuel for optimal mental and physical performance. Eating breakfast helps to maintain stable blood sugar levels and a healthy weight because you are less likely to over indulge later in the day. DRINK WATER- Set down that soda and replace it with the ever so yummy H2O! Our bodies are made mostly of water. Most fluids and foods contain water that will help to keep our [...]

50 is the new 25!

So 40-50 are some rough years on a body. Well I am kind of an over achiever so I like to go above and beyond the norm. In those ten years, my husband graduated dental school, we bought a business and started working together. Numerous friends and loved ones got cancer. With all this added to normal stress of life and going out to eat a lot; I managed to grow a nice muffin top. I have always worked out..Tim and I were going to the same gym when we met 26+ years ago. But, I was losing the battle with the bulge.   Tim knew I was growing increasingly frustrated, considering surgery or just giving up. I was just not able to get the lasting results I was looking for, I was yo-yoing. He talked with Tayler and bought my first training sessions for me for my 49th Birthday. I had never considered competing, I just wanted my 25 year old body back. Now I have it back and placed 5th in my first competition.  Tayler is so smart, she gave me just enough information to keep me intrigued and coming back for more. We worked very hard, she pushed when she needed and gave me time to find out how serious I was. This is a journey. The body does not respond the way or as quick as we wish ( especially old bodies). But Tayler can get you were you want to be, it will take the 4 D's; Diet, Determination, Dedication, and Diligence. Thank you Tayler! I could not have gotten my 25 year old body back without you. Actually Tim says it is the best I have ever looked. Not shabby [...]

A whole new Madison

In 2011 I began lifting. Every time I would go to the gym I would see these girls that I one day wanted to be. It wasn’t until about a year later that I found out these girls competed and I started to think about doing it myself. After a lot of thought I thought it wasn’t for me. For the next years I continued lifting and working out. I then saw a picture of my good friend and now teammate Erin Smith looking amazing. I contacted Erin to see what she was doing and she told me about Team TaylerMade. I talked back and forth for a while about it with her. Most of her trying to convince me to do it. It wasn’t until I checked out Tayler’s website and then talked to Tayler over email that I made the decision to join Team TaylerMade. When I emailed Tayler, I was one week late of a 12 week prep, and with Tayler’s motivation and my dedication I knew that I could do the comp prep in 11 weeks. The week I joined I came to posing class on Friday and fell absolutely in love with Tayler and the girls. I knew that I was in the right place and this was for me. Now with the struggles of being a college student at the University of Kansas, I still managed to stick to my diet and my workouts. With the help of every girl on the team, I made it through the temptations of going out followed by that midnight pizza haha. Each week went by and as I hit 4 weeks out from showtime I knew that I was not where I [...]

Don’t Lose Yourself Just For a Show.

WOW where do I even begin. I have been working on this blog for many months now, starting it, stopping it, over thinking it and then finally deciding to complete it. I have had my competition team for almost two years now. I started with 3 bikini competitors and have grown my team to 36 amazing female athletes. I am always willing to take on guys, but I think they are freaked out by the number of women on my team. haha You get 10-12 girls in prep at once I totally understand guys not wanting to be around all that. Anyways, in my 2 years of coaching I must say I have seen and heard it all! I think some guys would pay BIG money to get a hold of my phone for just a few minutes with the countless number of progress pics I get from my girls. I could spill all the crazy things I hear from behind stage to just sitting in the audience, but why I have finally taken the time to sit down and finish this blog is because over this past competition season I have really been disturbed by the number of girls who I have seen become consumed by the competing world. Now before you go all cray cray on me and make nasty comments as I know this blog is going to get (why I am usually very quiet on social media) hear me out on this and remember everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Having coached so many girls to the stage every one of them has heard me say this many times “Don’t forget why you started competing in the first place.” I [...]

Sheila sets a goal to compete and proves you can look amazing at any age!

I hired Tayler of Team TaylerMade in July 2013 just to lose a few pounds and get back in shape again. I informed Tayler that I was not interested in competing whatsoever because I was too out of shape and way too old!! (LOL!) In just 8 short weeks I had completely transformed my entire body with Tayler’s plan! In the meantime I attended the KC Classics to watch a friend of mine compete…and I was instantly hooked!! I thought it over for a while and…yep…I decided I wanted to compete in Bikini Masters! Fast forward 9 months and I hired Tayler as my competition Coach to get me ready for the 2014 KC CLassics. I officially became a Member of Team TaylerMade! I was so nervous and scared! But Tayler and the other girls on the team made me feel so much better. They treated me like one of the family and definitely put my mind at ease. I trained hard and ate clean for 12 weeks. Tayler answered any and all questions I had from nutrition to posing! I continued to get leaner and stronger! I was in the best shape of my entire life! At age 43, I looked and felt better than I did when I was in my 20s! When the BIG DAY came I was surprised at how calm I was! Tayler had taken me under her wing. Her and the other girls helped me through the entire process…minute by minute! It was the most incredible experience I had ever encountered! I am looking forward to KC Classics 2015! I can’t thank Tayler enough for everything she has done for me, physically and mentally. It was the best [...]

Jamie lifts heavy and turns Bikini Pro.

Last November 2013 I decided to compete in my first Bodybuilding competition in the Bikini class. Although I did very well at the Me vs Me show, my body and overall health had been compromised. The diet was a little too rigorous for my body, but I still continued on not knowing what to expect. After the show was over, I knew I would end up loving this sport even more, but needed to find a coach that would take the time to learn my body and invest in time in me. That's when a friend of mine Kris Bridwell highly recommended as you all know Miss Tayler Parry. After seeing pictures of not just Tayler but all of the Taylermadefit girls, I knew I wanted to join the team. I met with Tayler shortly after my first competition. She laid everything out in a simple manner, which I liked. We went over goals that seemed realistic for me. Upon that deciding on KC Classic 2014 All Natural Show. As her closing statement to our meeting she said " Lift heavy girl!" So I took Tayler's words of wisdom and did as she had said. So then June rolls around and it was time to start prepping for KC classic! I cleaned up my diet at 14 weeks but really went full speed with Tayler at 12 weeks. What really threw me through a loop was the fact that she made things so clear and uncomplicated. I wasn't used to that. Not putting down other trainers approach. I just really liked her style to start off with. All the other Taylermadefit girls and I started posing practice right away. It was so helpful and really [...]

What TaylerMade BOOTCAMP is all about

I looked Tayer up in the beginning of 2013 and was in Aw reading the updates about her team and her online transformations. I was added as her friend on Talermade fitness Facebook page and saw her progress and success within the industry. When a post came across my news feed in Dec about her upcoming boot camp I couldn't contain my excitement! I knew this was my chance to work with her and finally meet my own fitness goals. I knew she would push me and challenge me and by the end of the boot camp I would be shredded...simple shredded:) So I immediately signed up and counted down the days until the first boot camp. Before I went into Golds that day I was so nervous and didn't know what I had gotten myself into. But I opened the door and there she was, blonde, no make-up, hair pulled back, leggings. ( I soon learned this was her signature look) She said, " And this is Brandy another boot-camper" she told the front desk. So this was it. I was there and officially, " a boot-camper". She walked us up the stairs and before we entered the door she was telling us what equipment we needed, ....ball, 10 lb dumbbell, mat,.... She plugged in her music and got to work! I remember leaving that first day so proud of myself. I called my mom first thing when I got home and said, " I didn't die! But my endorphans were pumping so hard when I left I almost wrecked my car". That's how the workouts were for the remainder of the program. Every week Tayler had something brand new that challenged our body's [...]

“I got a lot of raised eyebrows and laughs when I told people I was going to compete”

Growing up, I was never gifted athletically.I couldn’t catch a ball to save my life, and I was always the last person picked for team sports. It may not seem like a big deal, but it really took a toll on me as I was ridiculed and deemed inferior to my peers. Luckily, I grew up as a competitive swimmer where I learned the importance of hard work and dedication. During my final years of high school, I became extremely dedicated and would go to practice 8 times a week year round.I loved seeing myself improve every day as I put in the hard work.I may not have been the fastest swimmer on the team, but I definitely had one of the biggest hearts. But as high school was coming to an end and college was in the near future, reality struck. As much dedication and commitment as I had in the sport of swimming, I just was not fast enough to swim at a Division 1 school. I started college at Missouri State University in the Fall of 2011, and a part of me felt empty as I was no longer involved in competitive swimming.I missed the feeling of putting my whole heart into something.I started going to the rec center at my school, but like most girls I had no idea what I was doing and thought an hour on the elliptical every day would get me“toned”.It wasn’t until my sophomore year of college that I became familiar with the weight room and learned the importance of health and nutrition.I started seeing results both in and outside the gym and I loved it. But something was still missing. I had seen Tayler Parry at Golds Gym [...]

From wanting to give up to an IFPA Bikini Pro

So, I really don't know where to start so I'll start from the beginning. Last October I competed in the Allstars. As I was backstage I saw a group of beautiful girls walk by in all black track suits with Team TaylerMade stitched in the front. They immediately caught my attention! When I saw Tayler Parry I knew I wanted to meet her! She had an awesome team that looked professional and ready for business! A few short months later I had the honor of being a part of TaylerMade. Tayler isn't just a coach but an inspiration. She is a woman that motivates me to be a stronger version of myself. Having a team of girls helps with everything! We all go through everything together. I have made so many new friends. There were days when I felt like giving up. Having posing practice every Friday helped me out so much. Getting to talk to Tayler and the girls kept that from happening. Being around positive girls and a positive coach was such a blessing. In the past four months I have grown so much. It has been a dream come true competing in the NANBF this past weekend. Tayler made this the least stressful show! It's like we are a little family. Walking into the hotel room the night before the show with all of the girls, gift bags from our coach, and a slice of pizza for us was heaven!! Having a coach that believes in you and a team that supports you is amazing. I finally feel like my dreams will become a reality. Hard work pays off! I feel so blessed!!
